About Us

Located within a thriving rural community, St Barnabas enjoys unique status as a combined First & Middle School, providing education for children aged from four to twelve years of age, (two if you count our pre-school). It delivers quality education to children from Drakes Broughton and its surrounding villages within the ancient fruit growing area of the Vale of Evesham, valuing its Voluntary Controlled status and close links with the local church. The school has a combination of traditional and modern buildings and is very well resourced with two ICT suites, science lab, art room and a large sports field.

There are 345 pupils in the school, with reception children starting at the beginning of the academic year in which their fifth birthday falls. Other children join us from our feeder First Schools of Norton-Juxta-Kempsey and Defford-cum-Besford in year five. At the age of twelve, the majority of children transfer to Pershore High School. We have one class in each year group up till Year 4 and then three classes in Years 5, 6 and 7. Pre school caters for children from the age of 2.

The teaching team, supported by teaching assistants, provides a broad and balanced curriculum for the children. The National Curriculum provides a core starting point for curriculum provision. However, we extend and enrich learning opportunities and embrace the Government’s vision for excellence and enjoyment in all aspects of our work. Our curriculum is under constant review so that we continue to provide the best opportunities for our pupils.

Governors, teachers, support staff, parents and friends work together to ensure that the wellbeing of the children is at the heart of all that we do. We ensure that the lively, stimulating and caring environment within the school enables the children to progress to achieve their academic potential and to develop as balanced, well-adjusted, thoughtful and polite young people.

We see education as a partnership between children and adults and throughout your association with the school we hope that we can work together to develop a life long interest in learning.
